How Narratives Change your Future Image
Did I have a narrative when I was a child? Now that have more understanding of what a narrative is, I think to myself, did I have a narrative when I was a child? That not my point thought. Since I know more about what a narrative is. I wonder what others think about narratives? Or what is their point of view toward it. I read two articles about narrative, to be honest I didn’t know what really narrative is until I read the articles. They did give a good deep explanation of how different philosophers and psychologists see narratives. One of the articles I read is by Galen Strawson “ I am not a story” it tells about how sometimes people are dishonest about their narratives. Also how people create their own identity because their disconnected narrative. On the other hand, Julie Beck “ Life’s Stories” talks about how narratives are personality and how one even leads to another. What’s around as could also contributed to how we tell our narrative.
Common sense seems to dictate that “ Autobiographical” narrative is an important role in our lives. Autobiography narrative are the stories we tell people to educate humans. From my perspective that is a very important thing because that how to learn and not repeat the same mistakes that others did. My mom tells me a lot of things that she went through. That helps me figure out what to do differently for her path or choices so that I don’t make the same mistakes she did. That’s why I think autobiography plays a big part of our life. Julie Beck mentioned an important point in her text “to truly make a life story, she’ll need to do what researchers call “ autobiographical reasoning” about the events “ identifying lessons learned or insights gained in life experiences, marking development or growth through sequences”. You should reflect on your life and pick important even, and tell people those even so that your story isn’t forgotten.
Although Galen Strawson says “ I don’t think an “ autobiographical narrative” plays any significant role in how I experience the world”. I disagree because we use autobiographical narrative to pass information from one generation to another. This shows that autobiography narrative plays a big role in educating people.
My narrative in these past few pass days is how I’m trying to live my life normally and focus on my studying while all the chaos that is going on in my country “Iraq”. The story I’m about to tell you shapes who I am right now. Just like how Julie Beck said narrative “ become who you are, and of who you’re on your way to becoming”. My narrative has shaped me to aim for a good future, and having high expectations for myself. That’s because in Iraq I have lived horrible reality. Unfortunately it has gotten worse not better, just a week ago there was a protest in Iraq. People want their rights they want jobs, clean water, electricity, and many other stuff that they are fighting for 16 years. Coming back to how this has affected my narrative, It gave me an image of what my future narrative should be. In my future narrative I want to have a good job so that I could help the people of my country. I want to be very educated, to show my mom that her hard work didn’t go to waste. I want to make changes, I want to help people. Especially when see people are protesting peacefully and the government is sending troops from another country (Iran) to shoot the protesters. The protesters tried to show the world that they are getting killed for peacefully protesting. So the government decided to shut down the internet nationwide. that basically the government telling protesters that there are consequences for expressing your narrative. Beck mentioned “ But just as there are consequences to telling, there are consequences to not telling”. The protesters had their consequences when they lived in poverty for 16 years, and didn’t take strong action. Now they are having their consequences for telling their narrative. The other reason why the government is shutting off the internet its so that he only tells his story from his point of view because just like Galen “ the naarativists are, at best, generalising from their own case”. The government is afraid that if the protesters tell their narrative than other countries might help the protesters and kick him out. Especially that a lot of Iraqis in different countries did a stand to support the protesters.
