Re-reading the See Through Words essay got me noticing things I didn’t notice before. I had to look up words that I didn’t know which helped a lot with understanding the text more. I also actually listen to the essay after I read it which also helped. The words that I looked up were divinest, diabolical, remark, synthetic, bristles, psycholinguistic, provocative. Of course there are other words that I didn’t know the meaning of but as I read the text I understood. It did make difference from reading the first time and from reading the second Time. There is somethings that I didn’t realize when I read it the first time, but after the second time I read it made more sense. Erard used a metaphor that say’s “ Vietnam to any disastrous military intervention”. At first I was like what is he talking about but then I remembered that Vietnam at one point in the history had a really bad war. Usually at bad disasteros people would say its another Vietnam. I did notice other things that I thought they were really cool, but it did make difference from my first read to my second read.

Great! I love how much care you gave to better understanding the Vietnam reference. Isn’t it interesting how large events in history become symbols? I’m curious if you find yourself doing that as you live out your own personal history? Do you think metaphors function in a similar way to individuals as they do to groups?
