I had a bit of trouble understanding the essay that was about the Trouble With Medicine’s Metaphors. Because I wasn’t seeing connection between the text and metaphors. He did mention having someone hold a warm cup of coffee was more likely that person had “Warmer” personality traits. Which means not just words can effect your outcome, but also touch as well. Any indirect action could also effect a persons out come. The text also mentioned a crime in a city that they were trying to solve. The people who saw the crime as a virus they tried to solve it in social reform. Although the people who saw the crime as beast they tried to solve it by enforcing law more strictly. So depending on how people see things, thats how they will interpret it. One thing that stood out to me In Geary’s ( Metaphors) text its when he said that “People with colored hearing actually see colors when they hear sounds of words or letters”. Which I thing he meant that when you hear words, your brain automatically compares it to something they heard before or know. Which is very interesting and weird how our brains work like that. In Erard (See Through Words) text, Erard said something that I saw as the definition of metaphors he said ” they’re meant to make someone realize that they’ve only been looking at one side of a thing”. I absolutely agree with that, metaphors are meant to give you a different view of a problem or an object. Now this could also be bad, people don’t always use metaphors to describe good things. There is always negative and positive things to new creation.
